Awesome Indoor Action from Slideways Open Sprints

The Slideways Open Sprint Series headed indoors for the very first time, with Slideways Go Karting Gold Coast Nerang hosting the second event of the 2019 season.

With a bumper field in attendance, the field was split into two groups for the three 10-minute-long races.

Kicking off proceedings was a spirited two lap qualifying dash, which saw Liam Hydes claim the pole position with a hot time of 47.042sec, just ahead of Jackson Faulkner 47.064sec, with the pair showing the way in their respective qualifying groups.

In the opening race for the lower 50% of qualifiers, Alex Jacovides forged his way into the lead, and ran away with a 7.2sec victory, on the way setting a best lap of 48.274sec.

In second place was Richard Trevillien, then newcomer Chad Bax, Kevin Chapman, Brett Want, Clayton Hydes, Jarrod Flood, Clint Williams, Chris Rice and Lachlan Powell.

The second race was much more of the same for Jacovides, this time with a fastest lap of 47.231sec, with a margin of victory of 33.003sec.

Second home was Trevillien, then Powell, Williams, Flood, Hydes, Chapman, Want, Rice and Bax.

With Jacoides elevated to the A final, Bax came through to win the B final, ahead of Want, Powell, Trevillien, Flood, Williams, Chapman, Hydes (fastest race lap – 48.27sec) and Rice.

In the opening heat for the top 50% qualifiers, it was Liam Hydes pushed all the way to the chequered flag by Jackson Faulkner, with 1.604sec splitting the duo at the finish, on the way setting a new track record of 45.906sec.

Third place went to Keenan Faulkner, from Gavin Faulkner, then Luke Day, Byron Graham, Leighton Cook, Christian Bishop, Chloe Buck and Mitch Munday.

With the Chook Lotto random invert for the race two grid, Buck found herself on pole position, and never looked back, racing away to claim victory by 7.264sec with a best lap time of 47.084sec.

Graham came home second, leading a train of karts featuring Jackson Faulkner, Cook, Day, Hydes, Bishop, Keenan Faulkner, Gavin Faulkner and Munday.

The A Final proved to be a classic drift contest, with Keenan Faulkner coming through to claim victory, with a fastest lap of 46.873sec.

Only 1.6sec back was Jackson Faulkner, then Hydes, while Buck was in the thick of the action before settling for fourth.

In fifth was the hard charging Jacovides, then Cook, Day, Gavin Faulkner, Munday, Bishop and Graham.

In the overall points for the day, Liam Hydes claimed the top spot by a single point over Jackson Faulkner, with Keenan Faulkner rounding out the podium
