The seventh round of the Slideways Open Sprint Series once again saw a high-quality field of racers face the starter, with Liam Hydes returning to the top spot following some spirited competition.
Run on the reverse track direction at Slideways Go Karting World Pimpama, the day featured a two-lap qualifying session, and three 10-minute-long sprint races.
Qualifying set the tone for the event, with Hydes on top with a hot time of 40.474sec, 0.325sec clear of Christian Bishop, then Clayton Hydes, Alex Jacovides, Brodie Smith, Lachlan Powell, Daniel Connor, Stefanie Wilmott, Michael Baines, John Wilmott, Peter Hendra, Clint Williams, Bianca Williams and the returning Zac Christie.

The opening race saw an epic tussle at the front of the field, with Christian Bishop forging his way through to claim victory by only 0.223sec over Liam Hydes.
Clayton Hydes flashed home in third rounding out a son-father two-three, then Jacovides, Powell, Smith, Connor, Baines, Stefanie Wilmott, Hendra, Clint Williams, Biance Williams, Christie and John Wilmott.
The fastest race lap went to Liam Hydes with a 40.080sec time, incredibly only 0.010sec faster than Bishop!
With the chook lotto random invert in play determining the starting order at the front of the pack for race two, it was Powell starting from pole, a position he would never relinquish in claiming his first Open Sprint win after a sustained attack from Liam Hydes and Jacovides.
Bishop was fourth from Baines, Connor, Smith, Stefanie Wilmott, Christie, Wilmott, Clayton Hydes, Clint Williams, Hendra and Bianca Williams.
Jacovides set the fastest race lap with a 39.883 sec lap time.
With combined points from qualifying and the opening two heats determining the grid order for race three, it was Liam Hydes from the front, a position he would never give up en route to a 2.021sec win over Bishop.
Jacovides forged his way through to third from Powell, Smith, Baines, Clayton Hydes, Connor, Hendra, Clint Williams, Christie, Stefanie Wilmott, Bianca Williams and John Wilmott.
Liam Hydes was fastest in the finale with a 39.583sec time, shading Jacovides (39.603sec) and Bishop (39.684sec).
Overall for the round it was Liam Hydes on top from Bishop and Jacovides, the encouragement award went to Smith, while the best and fairest bonus points went to Powell, Connor and Stefanie Wilmott.
