A bumper field faced the starter for the third round of the 2017 Slideways Enduros Series at Slideways Go Karting World Pimpama on Sunday, with the race going down to the wire as the rivalries heated up on track.
Starting from pole position, TSR Australia didn’t have things their own way throughout the 90 lap/65-minute race, with the reigning Slideways champions only hitting the lead late in the encounter.
The victory has stretched their winning streak to cover the opening three Slideways Enduros of the season.
CTS Motorsport were strong throughout, but had to settle for second position at the chequered flag, 5sec off the winners, while Global Action Photography came from behind to claim third, after a tardy first pit stop saw the team drop well down the order.
A charging final stint from Cameron Robertson saw Global Action fall 11sec short of TSR Australia at the chequered flag, with the team also picking up the fastest lap of the race.
In fourth position were 1788 Kangaroos, also on the lead lap, ahead of a solid outing by Team SBR, CTS Heavies, followed by regular competitors Old Dogs and Multi 21, who battled hard throughout.
In ninth were Hyundai Excel Cup competitors BPRO, from Team Toirkens, Kool Katz Racing, Sea FM Racing, led by rugby league legend Ben Hannant, then Multi 22, with Schweppes Racing rounding out the field.
Overall the racing was very competitive, with the level of presentation from the teams taking a step up, with CTS Motorsport and Kool Katz showing off some neat new team threads, while the Schweppes marquee was a welcome addition for fans trackside. Teams also enjoyed a sausage sizzle following the race.
Once again, the event counted for Sodi World Series points, with both TSR Australia and 1788 Kangaroos off to France to represent Australia at the World Finals in May.
The next round of the Slideways Enduro Series is scheduled for May 14, with the event set to be the first run to a double length format, with teams set to race for 180 laps, or approximately 130 minutes.
The entry fee for the event is set at $125 per driver with the early bird pre-registration, which cuts off at 12:00pm on Monday May 8th.
Coming up on April 23 is the first Sprint event on the Slideways racing calendar, with races for adults, juniors and cadets.
Entry fees are $88 per person, with all participants receiving 10 minutes of qualifying, as well as two ten minute races each.
