GJK Racing have broken through for their first victory of the 2018 Slideways Enduro Series at Slideways Go Karting World Pimpama, with hot lap times matched by excellent strategy.
After a pair of fourth place efforts from the family team in the opening two rounds, strong practice times early in the week set the stage for a standout performance.
The new Enduro format for this year sees all competitors taking to the track for five minutes of qualifying, prior to times being combined to determine the grid order.
Qualifying session number was topped by Christian Bishop (40.449sec), the second by
Jackson Faulkner (39.686sec), and the final by Keenan Faulkner (39.905sec).
By pacing the final two qualifying segments, GJK Racing sat on the pole position, ahead of the winners of the opening two rounds, Global Action Photography, then the 1788 Kangaroos, Streamline Karting, Notorious B.U.S. Drivers, the Bunji Kangaroos, HR Racing Australia, Ark Em, GTR – Girls That Race, and The Hangovers.
With Jackson and Keenan Faulkner leading the field away in the opening two stints, it was up to Gavin Faulkner to bring the squad to the chequered flag.
Flying home in the final stint was Global Action Photography, with Camron Robertson’s late charge falling just 1.332sec short after the completion of 110 circuits.
The 1788 Kangaroos also finished on the lead lap in third, from Streamline Karting, the Notorious B.U.S. Drivers, the Bunji Kangaroos, HR Racing Australia, Ark Em, GTR – Girls That Race and the Hangover rounding out the finishers.
In a sign of their dominance on the evening, GJK Racing claimed the fastest race lap with a 39.326sec time, with seven teams setting laps under the 40sec mark.
The special awards for the event went to Matt Hudson (Best and Fairest), as well as Robert Fernandez (Encouragement Award).
