New World Record for Indoor Karting
Cam Wilson Smashes World Record For Go Karting and Raises Funds For Charity!
On Wednesday 5th February, V8 Ute driver Cam Wilson rocketed to the Guinness World Record books, travelling 604kms in 24 hours and smashing the current record of 503km for – ‘Karting, Greatest distance travelled in 24 hours indoors (individual)’ by 101kms
An exhausted but elated Cam, who had to be lifted from the kart at rest breaks, smashed the existing record at 8.05am Feb 5th after just 20 hours behind the wheel, and went on to complete a final distance of 604kms at noon to raise much-needed funds for Huntingtons Queensland.
“It was touch and go at some points, but the cause kept me motivated and I couldn’t be happier about raising not only awareness of Huntington’s Disease, but also much needed funds so hopefully a cure can be found for this devastating disease.” – Said Cam
Huntington’s Disease (HD) is a cause close to Cam’s heart, with his father Murray, 66, suffering from the disease and Cam, 39, unsure yet whether he has inherited the condition. “I have a 50 per cent chance of inheriting this debilitating disease and if I do get it, my little daughter Ellie, who is just three and a half, also has a 50 per cent chance of inheriting the condition,” Cam said.
“I will do everything in my power to raise funds to help towards finding a cure, if not in my lifetime but certainly in my daughter’s lifetime. Thank you so much to everyone for the support and the donations.”
Huntingtons Qld executive officer Cheryl Miller congratulated Cam on his amazing feat and urged all Queenslanders show their support for Cam, and for local families living with Huntingtons, by donating to the cause at www.qahda.com.
“Cam may have completed his final lap but we are still urging everyone to head to the Huntingtons Qld website and give generously to this worthwhile cause,” she said.
“Cam is a hero in our eyes and we are so proud of him, and what he has achieved with this world record.”
The event took place at Slideways Go Karting Brisbane and Cam, his family, friends, local businesses and members of the public enjoyed the after celebrations which included an auction of parts from Cam’s smashed V8 ute from the Gold Coast 600, as well as a spit roast, Eagle Boys pizzas and hot laps; all proceeds of which also went towards Huntingtons Queensland.
