The third round of the Slideways Junior Racing Series turned on the action, with solid fields from Cadets (aged 7 to 11) and Juniors aged (12-15).
The event was run on the reverse track direction to the standard three race format, with the random grid draw for the opening 10-minute-long race inverted for the second, with combined points setting the starting order for the finale.
The next Junior event on the calendar is set down for Sunday June 24, with early bird entries eligible to receive a free bonus practice race.
Other upcoming events include the triple-length Slideways Enduro Series round for teams of three racers on Friday June 8, with the early bird cut off set down for midnight on Friday June 1.
The Slideways Sprint Series and Slideways Ladies Race Series meanwhile are scheduled to continue on Wednesday June 27.

Meanwhile, many racers, especially Juniors and Cadets, have been honing their craft at the Slideways Karting Academy, with expert tuition improving driver’s speed, race craft and strategy.

Juniors
The field of seven Juniors turned on a great show, with some tight racing between an even field.
The opening race was claimed by Lewis Spencer in a thriller, holding on from Juliette Russell, with Olivia Herbison claiming third after initial podium finisher Liam Hydes was pushed back to fourth following a post-race penalty.
Newcomer Charlie Edwards was fifth from Jude Livermore, with Stefanie Wilmott rounding out the field.
Fastest on track was Hydes with a 40.520sec.
Edwards was declared the winner of the second race from Hydes (fastest lap – 40.010sec), with Livermore coming home third ahead of Spencer, Russell, Herbison and Wilmott.
Hydes made amends in the finale, clearing out to claim victory by 11.259sec, along the way setting a quick lap time of 39.647sec, while the second through fifth place recipients all set lap times in the 40sec bracket, namely Spencer, Russell, Herbison and Edwards.
The finishers were rounded out by Wilmott and Livermore.
Overall for the day, Hydes was awarded the victory after winning the tiebreaker on points with Spencer, while Russell was classified in third.
Edwards was nominated the Best and Fairest, while Spencer was awarded the Encouragement Award.
Hydes meanwhile is packing his bags and set to travel to Italy for the Sodi World Series finals, representing Australia after claiming the Slideways Junior Series in 2017.

Cadets
With new karts currently being prepared, this event will be the last where the field will be split in the Cadet division.
The two grids had their random orders inverted for the second heat, with points determining the grids for the two finals.
In Group 1, Carter Skewes came out on top in the opening race from Juliette Bogart, Levi Boyd, Luke Wilson, Lachlan Trevillien and Jordi Slater.
Fastest on track was Skewes with a 47.086sec time.
Bogart stepped up in heat two to claim victory from Boyd, Trevillien, Wilson, Skewes and Slater, with Bogart setting the pace with a 46.582sec time.
Group 2 meanwhile was dominated by Matthew Scholten, who won both heats.
Scholten set the tone in the opener (46.692sec) in finishing ahead of Brayden Hill, Ocene Colangelo, Zachary Naylor, Daniel Sullivan and Javier Fernandez.
Once again pacing the field (46.535sec best lap), Scholten led home Sullivan, Hill, Colangelo, Naylor and Fernandez.
For the lower point scorers, Naylor came through to take the win from Ellie Wilson, making her debut, then Slater and Fernandez, with Slater setting the fastest race lap with a 46.723sec time.
In the main final, Scholten completed a clean sweep of his races, beating home Bogart by 5.168sec, ahead of Boyd.
Fourth went to Sullivan from Luke Wilson, Hill, Trevillien, Skewes (fastest lap – 46.267sec) and Colangelo.
Overall for the day Scholten claimed the top spot on the podium ahead of Bogart and Boyd.
In other awards, Sullivan was voted the Best and Fairest, with the Encouragement award going to Slater.
