The revamped Slideways Karting Academy continues to provide results, with its tiered structure improving race craft for racers of all ages and abilities.
Held on the outdoor circuit at Slideways Go Karting World Pimpama, participants pay a discounted rate for on-track time, which includes individual tuition provided by our expert staff, who are highly experienced in many different fields of motorsport.
“The Slideways Karting Academy has come along very well, we’ve changed quite a few things around from how they used to be done,” said Slideways Managing Director Cam Wilson.
“The Academy is now built up into stages; basically, it is now geared up for kids who have never driven any form of go kart previously, and we have a ten-stage program for them.
“For the more advanced drivers we have a Scholarship program.
“We have a lot of kids who have already progressed through to what we call the Slideways Scholarship, which gives them a bit of a discount, only $50 for two ten-minute races on track, including full tuition, either from myself, Josh Brown or John Mostyn, plus our other Slideways staff.
“It’s going very, very well; the Scholarship side of the program works more on set specifics that are most relevant to each driver, fine tuning the areas where they can improve.
“The initial portion of the Karting Academy literally develops someone from not being able to drive, to being able to drive consistent and fast the whole way around the track.
“It’s a fantastic thing, it’s really exciting to get kids as young as seven years of age out there into the karts, and just seeing them progress, evolve and love what they are doing.
“There are certainly more options out there than just football or netball, it’s really cool to see so many young girls and boys, not only in our Cadet category for seven to 11 years old, but also our Juniors for 12 years through to 15.
“We also have a couple of seniors who come along, guys that are 40 plus years of age, who just want to get some tips to improve their driving.
“Slideways Go Karting World is quite a technical track, and there are quite a few key factors around that track that you have to get right.
“The saying goes ‘that you can’t teach an old dog new tricks,’ well you can!
“If drivers keep racing with bad habits, it can take some effort to iron that out, but we can help identify any issues, and get the driver on the pace.”
The Slideways Karting Academy is held on Monday to Thursday afternoons, Saturday mornings, and at other times by appointment.
