The Slideways Christmas Cup rounded out the Slideways Go Karting World racing season with the biggest entry list to date, which was matched by hot on track action.
Two fields of ten starters hit the 700m circuit for a pair of 65 minute races, with 25% of all entry fees being donated to the Salvation Army’s Christmas Appeal.
The first event of the day saw some of south east Queensland’s hottest hire kart teams go up against an assorted field of new competitors, having their first outing in a Sodi World Series event.
TSR Australia continued on the strong form that saw them win three of the four Slideways Enduro Series rounds earlier in the year, taking out the victory.
The team didn’t have things all their own way, as they were pushed to the chequered flag by BBQ International, who managed to narrow the final margin of victory to only 3.533sec.
It was a super impressive Slideways debut by the BBQ International squad, who overcame a staunch early battle with eventual third place finishers Global Action Photography.
Profile Autosports came through to finish in fourth position ahead of The Muppets and Multi 21.
Leading the new teams home were Kool Katz, the Trev Heads, Team Toirkens, SJS Racing and The Chooks.
The fastest race lap chart made for interesting reading, with BBQ International (43.551sec) ahead of Profile Autosports (43.629sec), then TSR Australia (43.803sec), The Muppets (43.806sec) and Global Action Photography (43.874sec).
For the second race of the day, TSR Australia, The Muppets and the Trev Heads all backed up for a second round.
After qualifying fastest for the race, TSR Australia relegated themselves to the rear of the field with a 30 second penalty.
The team’s charge through the pack however came up just short, with an ace strategy from The Muppets seeing them victorious by 9.824sec.
Both races covered a distance of 87 laps, and were stoppage free.
The Bursons Auto Parts 2 squad came through to claim the bottom step of the podium ahead of their number one team, with the Currumbin Auto Wreckers One team finishing fifth, ahead of the Trev Heads, Shields Family Racing, Currumbin Steering and Suspension, Machinery Drive Wreckers, with the Currumbin Auto Wreckers number two outfit rounding out the field.
Showing that they had the pace, The Muppets registered the fastest lap of the race with a 43.873sec against TSR Australia’s best effort of 43.884sec, with both times competitive with the first race, which was held in cooler conditions.
In 2017 Slideways, Slideways will be going racing in a big way, with a ten round endurance series between February and November, which is set to include a pair of double length races.
There will also be a shorter sprint series of races, as well as a junior academy and race series.
