The Slideways Enduro Series at Slideways Go Karting World at Pimpama continues to turn on the action, with the latest instalment going right down to the wire.
Contested over 75min/110 laps on the normal track direction, Global Action Photography backed up their win from the opening event of the season with another success, although it wasn’t all straight forward for the squad.
With combined lap times setting the starting grid, Global Action Photography started from pole position, with the margin to second place starting SMH Racing only 0.017sec after three laps, with the 1788 Kangaroos in third, only 0.251sec further back.
Lining up from fourth were GJK Racing, then Streamline Karting, HR Racing Australia, the Notorious B.U.S. Drivers, Les Femmes, Ark Em, Shaw’d B Goode, and Girls That Race.
In the three separate five-minute-long qualifying sessions, the top times respectively went to Jake Albertson (Global Action, 40.023sec), Jackson Faulkner (GJK Racing, 40.236sec) and John Mostyn (40.311sec).
For the race start, Camron Robertson led the field away for Global Action, followed closely by SMH Racing’s Liam Hydes, and the 1788 Kangaroo’s John Mostyn.
Pete Brown took over the wheel for Global Action’s middle stint, while Albertson brought the team home, making his way through the pack to eventually draw out a 15sec margin of victory at the chequered flag.
After Dean Ferguson (1788 Kangaroos) and Phil Edwards (SMH Racing) scrapped hard through the middle stint, the battle of the night came down to the Kangaroo’s Ryan Mount and SMH Racing’s Michael Seeto, who were nose to tail for the run home, allowing Albertson to make his getaway out front.
The final margin between the Kangaroos and SMH was 0.7sec, with the racing between the pair a textbook demonstration of how to fight cleanly.
GJK Racing were next home, from Streamline Karting, HR Racing Australia, the Notorious B.U.S. Drivers, Les Femmes, Ark Em, Shaw’d B Goode, and Girls That Race.
Fastest race lap went to Global Action with a 39.573sec time, while Jake Albertson was awarded the Best and Fairest, and Phil Durrington scored the Encouragement Award.
The Slideways Enduro Series returns with another 75min race on the reverse track direction on Wednesday May 9th, with the free bonus session for early birds closing at midnight on Friday May 3rd.
Other dates to remember include the fourth round of the Slideways Sprint Race Series and Slideways Ladies Race Series on Wednesday May 23rd, and the third round of the Slideways Junior and Cadet Race Series on Sunday May 27th.
