Phillips Wilson Racing is set to field a star-studded line-up in this weekend’s Bushranger Excel Cup 200, with Paul Morris and Ben Bargwanna amongst the drivers entered for the Queensland Raceway event.
The team will feature a total of five entries, with the lead Slideways Go Karting Centres backed machine to be driven by two-time national Hyundai Excel champion Cam Wilson, and Victorian young gun Bargwanna, who will be making a final run in the Excel category prior to stepping up to Formula Ford competition in 2019.
Wilson has form on the board at Queensland Raceway, having earned a total of 20 victories en route to claiming the 2017 Excel Cup, while at the recent Shannons Nationals event at the venue, he took two race wins in the invited Excel category.
Earlier in the year at Mount Panorama, both Wilson and Bargwanna were amongst the race winners as the class made its Bathurst debut.
Morris meanwhile will be making the transition from Stadium Super Trucks to the somewhat smaller Excels, when he pairs with series front runner and former Superkart ace Tyrone Gautier.
A standout in a wide range of categories, Morris recently was successful when the Aussie Racing Cars took to the streets of Surfers Paradise, while this year he added a Bathurst 6 Hour crown to his Bathurst 12 Hour, Bathurst 500 and Bathurst 1000 titles.
In other pairings, former Production Car and Formula Ford driver David Wood will team with James Van Roon, 2018 Excel Cup race winner Mick McCloud will be partnered by experienced racer Paul Butler, while new team driver Ron Conquest will combine with highly experienced Excel racer Cameron Bartholomew.
Following this weekend’s 200km race, the Phillips Wilson Racing crew will take on double duty on the weekend of November 17-18 with events at both Lakeside Raceway and Morgan Park Raceway, with the season to be rounded out by an endurance event at Winton Raceway on December 1-2.
