Three Races, Three Winners in Slideways Sprints

Three different winners from three different races highlighted the latest round of the Slideways Open Sprint Series, contested at Slideways Go Karting World Pimpama over the weekend.

With early morning rain leaving the track slick, competitors were allowed five laps for qualifying, with perpetual front runner Christian Bishop setting the pace with a 40.582sec lap time.

Second on the grid was Alex Jacovides from Clayton Hydes, Michael Baines, Chaad Hewitt, Liam Hydes, Ben Hoffman, Brodie Smith, Jordan Kirk, Zac Christie, Ian Harvey and Robert Hovey.

The opening 12 lap race was battle to the finish between the top-two qualifiers, with Bishop claiming the honours over Jacovides by only 0.223sec, with the duo’s top lap times tight, with a 40.174sec versus a 40.196sec.

Clayton Hydes finished a flying third, ahead of Baines, Kirk, Hewitt, Smith, Liam Hydes, Harvey, Christie, Hovey and Hoffman.

With the “chook lotto” random invert in play for race number two, it was relative newcomer to the Slideways racing scene Baines with his maiden race victory, reaching the chequered flag 1.217sec ahead of Jacovides, who set a best lap time on 39.944sec on his charge through the field.

Hewitt claimed third ahead of Liam Hydes, Smith, Harvey, Hoffman, Christie, Hovey, Bishop and Clayton Hydes, with the latter pair involved in a mid-race accident.

With the combined points setting up the grid for the final, it was Jacovides chased all the way to the win by Hewitt and Bishop, with the top-three separated by only 1.369sec, while all setting times in the 39 second bracket, with Bishop the fastest (39.827sec).

Fourth went to Baines, then Liam Hydes, Clayton Hydes, Harvey, Hoffman, Smith, Christie and Hovey.

In the overall point score for the day, it was Jacovides on top from Bishop and Baines, who also won the Encouragement Award, and also the top points in the Best and Fairest tally, with Bishop and Jacovides also registering bonus points.
