Global Action Photography used all their experience to pick up the opening round win at the 2018 Slideways Enduro Series, held under lights for the very first time at Slideways Go Karting World Pimpama.
The evening saw a new qualifying format introduced, where all drivers had five minutes to achieve a benchmark lap time.
In the first session, Gavin Faulkner (40.763sec) set the pace, while Liam Hydes (40.180sec) was quickest in the second, and John Mostyn (40.105sec) topped the third.
The combined qualifying times saw GJK Racing claim the pole position (121.443sec), from Global Action Photography (121.485sec), then SMH Racing (121.829sec), 1788 Kangaroos (122.677sec), DPL Raceline (123.674sec), Underdogs (123.805sec), Giants Nerang (123.961sec), Bunji Kangaroos (125.572sec), Les Femmes (126.451sec) and Girls That Race (126.608sec).
The race started at a cracking pace, but a mid-race rain squall halted proceedings, and saw the field head back to the dryness of the pits.
At the mid-race break, the 1788 Kangaroos led SMH Racing, Global Action Photography, GJK Racing, Giants Nerang, Bunji Kangaroos, DPL Raceline, Girls that Race, Les Femmes and the Underdogs.
At that stage of the race, following the completion of the dry running, Global Action Photography had set the fastest race lap of 40.000sec, from 1788 Kangaroos (40.003sec), SMH Racing (40.034sec), GJK Racing (40.070sec) and DPL Raceline (40.092sec).
Once racing resumed, Global Action Photography forged their way through to claim victory over the 1788 Kangaroos, while SMH Racing rounded out the podium.
GJK Racing were fourth, ahead of Giants Nerang, Bunji Kangaroos, DPL Raceline, Girls that Race, Les Femmes and the Underdogs.
The best and fairest award for the race went to Gavin Faulkner, while Lochie Crowther picked up the encouragement award.
Racing continues at Slideways Go Karting World Pimpama on April 18th with the first ever mini-enduro at the Slideways Sprint Series, which will once again race alongside the Slideways Ladies Series.
We’ll be back at it again on April 22 with the Slideways Junior and Cadet Series, while the Slideways Enduro Series returns on Friday April 27.
Competitors are reminded that they are eligible for a complimentary practice session when they sign up to events by the early bird cut-off date, with all details available on the Slideways Go Karting World Race Days web page.
