Troy Norris in the Slideways Holden Torana XU-1
Wild slides, a big oil down, hard racing, race tape, and a gear stick falling off – it’s just another day in the life of Troy Norris’s Holden Torana XU-1 in the Group N Historic Touring Cars around Lakeside Park!
Filmed at the 2017 Lakeside Classic, the clip takes in onboard footage from qualifying and the opening race of the weekend.
Kicking off in qualifying, at top speed through Lakeside’s infamous kink, the gear stick comes adrift at the worst possible moment…
Without engine braking, the lap is aborted, with the wayward stick removed back in the pits before qualifying continued, sans shifter.
Undaunted, Norris was ninth fastest in the session, with the field being led by Supercars racer David Wall (driving the priceless ex-Pete Geoghegan Ford Mustang), while Australian motorsport legend John Bowe qualified his ex-Bob Jane Holden Monaro in third.
With a quick dose of race tape, Norris returned to action for the race with a shifter of sorts, before carving his way through the pack.
Keep an eye out for Graeme Wakefield’s Ford Falcon GTHO having an oil line come adrift, with the resulting slick giving the Mustang of Grahame Wrobel a properly slideways ride down the pit straight!
After 10 laps, Norris crossed the finish line in a solid fifth position.
Enjoy the action!
